Greetings from Mr. O'C!
Science is from the Latin word "scire" meaning "to know." Thus, a science education is essential for all citizens, as a democracy can thrive only with an informed populace. The goal of science education is not simply to prepare students to study more science in college. It is to enlarge every student's perspective on the natural world and the technological achievements of the human race. A science education improves your thinking and sharpens your awareness. It also makes you a better problem solver in any endeavor, and gives you the ability to understand and appreciate the complexities of the modern world as well as the magnificence and beauty of nature.
Science enriches the human experience! It is my sincere hope that science classes at Yreka High School will enrich the students who take them.
I'm Mark O'Connor, and I have been an instructor in this District since 1989. I was educated at the University of California in Berkeley after twelve years of Catholic schools. I have worked with students of all ability levels in a wide variety of classroom settings. It is a privilege to live and work in this beautiful community and I hope we will enjoy a productive relationship in the coming school year.
