Welcome Back!
There have been some changes within the main office this summer! In an effort to better serve our students and parents, we have split our District Office and main High School office, moving the District Superintendent (Mr. Greenfield), District Chief Business Officer (Mrs. Beth Cottini), District Secretary (Mrs. Shasta Odbert), and District Bookkeeper (Mrs. Toni Joling) to the build-ing that has been our Career Center, which will now be the District Office.
Our High School Counselors (Mr. Jason Freitas and Mrs. Jennifer Truttman) and our School Psychologist (Mrs. Maria Haywood), as well as our School Registrar (Ms. Lisa Gallamore) will occupy the front wing of the main office. The wing that faces the quad will still continue to serve all the remaining student services: Atten-dance/Bookkeeping (Mrs. Jamie Koch), Athletics/Discipline (Mrs. Chelsea Hall), Assistant Principal/Athletic Director (Mr. Steve Van Ert) with the School Secretary located at the center desk (Mrs. Kristen Brown). Finally, I will serve as the school site Principal for Yreka High School, as well as Director of Curriculum and Categorical Programs.
Some other exciting changes will be the expansion of the Yreka Options Program, with a move to a large building at 504 West Lennox Street. This expansion will allow the program to operate Monday through Friday 8am to 3pm and can serve a larger student population than has been possible in the past several years. Mr. Randy Baker, will be coordinating the Yreka Options Pro-gram, and will be contacting students about scheduling their 2011-2012 Inde-pendent Study appointments. Yreka Op-tions students will still be considered Yreka High School students and may choose to participate in classes and extracurricular activities on the main campus. The main contact number for Yreka Options will be 842-1659.
We are also continuing to work on expanding programs such as the Southern Oregon Univer-sities Dual Credit program, allowing students in certain classes to earn college credit for their work here at Yreka High School; the freshman transition program inclusive of This is The Edge, Senior Buddies, and assessment testing; and the continued work on career pathways academic classes and activities. We are very excited about the upcoming year, and hope you are as well.
All other school operations will continue as past years, with the Red and Gold schedule ("Red" weeks beginning with 1st period, and "Gold" weeks beginning with 6th period), with the school calendars marked to indicate the sequence of the week with any unforeseen changes being noted in the daily bulletin and on the school Web page.
We will continue the operation of the Aeries Parent Access program, and encourage all parents and guardians to sign up for access. This web based program gives parents the opportunity to access their Student's informa-tion, grades, and attendance.
As usual, the beginning of the school year is a busy time. If you have any questions or con-cerns, we invite you to contact us.
We look forward to seeing our students on August 17th, and our parents and guardians at Back to School Night on August 23rd, until then enjoy what’s left of the summer!
Marie Caldwell, Principal/ Director of Curriculum and Categorical Programs
